ITINERARY

July 7 - 16, 2024

DAY 1 – ARRIVE IN DEER LAKE

Arrive in Deer Lake and make your way to Gros Morne Park area. Meet your Tour Director at 6:30 p.m. in the restaurant at a hotel in Gros Morne Park for a Welcome Dinner.

DAY 2 – GROS MORNE TOURING

Today, we go to Lobster Cove Head Lighthouse to see the fascinating marine displays and to have a picnic lunch. Then, we go on a scenic boat tour of Western Brook Pond, an ancient fjord (weather permitting). Please note there is a 45 minute walk (3 km) from the parking lot to the dock and a 45 minute walk back. Tonight we have dinner at the hotel and see the Anchors Aweigh show to experience Newfoundland music, wit and culture at its best OR enjoy a production at Gros Morne Theatre Festival.

DAY 3 – GROS MORNE TOURING

Discover why Gros Morne National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is truly one of the highlights of your trip. Enjoy a hike along the Tablelands Trail to see rock usually found deep within the earth’s mantle and take a scenic boat cruise on Bonne Bay. Learn about the history of the small villages nestled on the shores, and keep a lookout for whales and bald eagles.

DAY 4 – GROS MORNE - GRAND FALLS-WINDSOR - GANDER

After lunch in King's Point (on own), visit the Salmonid Interpretation Centre to learn more about the history, biology, ecology, and habitat of the Atlantic salmon. You may even see some swimming up the salmon ladder at the centre. After, we travel to Gander to check into our hotel and have an evening at leisure.

DAY 5 – GANDER - TWILLINGATE - GANDER

Today, we head to picturesque Twillingate. Here, we visit the Prime Berth Fishery and Heritage Centre, where we learn about the history of the fishing industry in Newfoundland and how the industry has evolved over the years. We also go on a boat tour in Twillingate to look for icebergs and whales. We’ll enjoy wine tasting at Auk Island Winery and visit Long Point Lighthouse. We then make our way to Gander for an evening of leisure.

DAY 6 – GANDER - TERRA NOVA NATIONAL PARK - CLARENVILLE

This morning, we will embark on a Beyond Words Tour - A Come From Away Experience and visit the North Atlantic Aviation Museum in Gander. We'll have lunch at a local restaurant (on own) before leaving Gander and heading through the beautiful forests of Terra Nova National Park to the Visitor Centre to watch a film about the park and have a tour of the forest and marine exhibits. We overnight in Clarenville.

DAY 7 – CLARENVILLE - TRINITY - BONAVISTA - CLARENVILLE

Today, we travel to Trinity, one of the oldest communities in North America, and do a guided historical walking tour with a local. After lunch (on own) in Trinity, we head to Bonavista to see The Matthew Legacy, a full-scale replica of the ship that John Cabot sailed in 1497, when he landed here in North America. Finally, we visit Cape Bonavista Lighthouse and admire the beautiful cliffs and the sweeping views of the coastline. We head back to our hotel in Clarenville for an evening at leisure.

DAY 8 – CLARENVILLE - ST. JOHN’S

This morning, we travel to Quidi Vidi village, a quaint fishing community in St. John’s, and visit Quidi Vidi Brewery to taste some local craft beers. After lunch in downtown St. John’s (on own), we do a city tour of St. John’s, North America’s oldest city. We will visit Cabot Tower and Signal Hill National Historic Site, admire the architecture of old St. John’s, including the famous “Jelly Bean Houses” and see the Basilica of St. John the Baptist and Confederation building. The evening will be at leisure.

DAY 9 – ST. JOHN'S - BAY BULLS - CAPE SPEAR - ST. JOHN’S

Today we head to Bay Bulls to embark on a boat trip to Witless Bay Ecological Reserve to view Atlantic Puffins, Murres and millions of seabirds that nest on these coastal islands. This is also a favourite feeding ground for whales. After, we visit Cape Spear National Historic Site, the most easterly point of land in North America. Your afternoon is at leisure to enjoy St. John’s. In the evening, partake in an age-old tradition – the “SCREECH-IN” ceremony, a traditional ceremony that commemorates your new status as an honourary Newfoundlander – sealed with a shot of the famous Newfoundland Screech. After the “Screech-In” ceremony, we enjoy a farewell dinner, which includes  “Jiggs” dinner pie or something else of your choosing.

DAY 10 – HOME

Your tour ends after breakfast this morning. Say farewell and look back with fond memories of your time in Newfoundland.
