ITINERARY

DAY 1 – HALIFAX, NOVA SCOTIA

Welcome to Canada’s Atlantic Coast with its stunning natural beauty and its relaxed way of life.

We will be visiting all three of Canada’s Maritime Provinces including Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island on this tour. We start with the vibrant city of Halifax, Nova Scotia. Meet in the

hotel lobby at 7:15 p.m. (transfers from the airport included if

booking land + air package). Join your Tour Director and fellow travellers this evening for a Welcome Reception.

DAY 2 – HALIFAX - PEGGY'S COVE - HALIFAX

Visit Peggy’s Cove and see its iconic lighthouse in one of the most idyllic locations in Canada. Amazing coastal views await. 

Continue to Halifax for a city tour highlighting many attractions including Halifax’s Public Gardens, Spring Garden Road, the Old Town Clock and the famous Citadel. 

Afternoon and evening are free to explore Halifax and its beautiful waterfront.

DAY 3 – HALIFAX – MAHONE BAY – LUNENBURG – HALIFAX

Drive through the small fishing village of Mahone Bay, one of Canada’s most picturesque towns with its three world-famous churches.

Then head to Lunenburg, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Enjoy a visit to the Fisheries Museum of the Atlantic where you will learn about Nova Scotia’s fishing heritage from a guide from the local fishing community. Then, explore the deck of a tall ship, which is part of the museum. 

Enjoy lunch on your own and afterwards the group will go on a guided walk of Lunenburg to explore its historic and colourful architecture, as well as its distinctive waterfront.

End your day back in Halifax for an evening at leisure.

DAY 4 – HALIFAX – CAPE BRETON ISLAND – BADDECK

Our first stop is the Millbrook Cultural and Heritage Centre where you will learn about the history of the local indigenous people, the Mi’kmaq nation. Then we travel to beautiful Cape Breton Island via the Canso Causeway.

Enjoy lunch on your own in Baddeck and then take part in cultural demonstrations at The Gaelic College including a kilt-making demonstration. Also, take part in a “milling frolic” and learn some Gaelic words and a song. 

Be entertained tonight at a traditional Ceilidh (kay-lee), a Gaelic celebration of music, dancing and storytelling.

DAY 5 – BADDECK – FORTRESS OF LOUISBOURG – BADDECK

Today, we enjoy a visit to the impressive Fortress of Louisbourg. This National Historic Site is a one-quarter partial reconstruction of an 18th century French fortress as it would have been at its height in the 1740’s.  Chat with costumed guides during your visit at the Fortress. 

We head back to Baddeck for an afternoon at leisure.

This evening’s treat will be a famous Baddeck Lobster Supper.

DAY 6 – BADDECK – CABOT TRAIL – BADDECK

Today, we explore the Cabot Trail, one of the world’s most scenic destinations, with stunning ocean vistas, rugged coastline and quaint fishing villages. Enjoy a picnic lunch near a scenic woodland trail as we travel along this gorgeous route. We also take part in a whale watching tour (weather permitting).

This evening is at leisure in Baddeck.

DAY 7 – BADDECK– WOOD ISLANDS FERRY – PRINCE EDWARD ISLAND

We start the day exploring the Alexander Graham Bell Museum, which houses an amazing display of his inventions. 

Next, we head to Prince Edward Island via a scenic ferry ride across the Northumberland Strait on the Wood Islands Ferry. 

Enjoy the pastoral landscapes en route to Charlottetown, the capital of Prince Edward Island. Check into your accommodations and later, enjoy free time to explore this beautiful, walkable city.

DAY 8 – PRINCE EDWARD ISLAND

Enjoy an historical walking tour of Charlottetown and a visit to the Confederation Centre of the Arts. Afterwards, we enjoy a delicious lunch before heading to Cavendish and Green Gables Heritage Place, the site which inspired the setting for Lucy Maud Montgomery to create her beloved tale “Anne of Green Gables”. Take a stroll in the Haunted Woods or along Balsam Hollow Trail, as described in the book. 

This evening is at leisure in Charlottetown.

DAY 9 – PRINCE EDWARD ISLAND – SAINT JOHN, NEW BRUNSWICK

Today, we travel to New Brunswick, driving through Victoria-by-the-Sea for views of iconic red cliffs contrasting with the blue ocean and sky. We then cross the Northumberland Strait via the 12.9 km (8 mile) Confederation Bridge, Canada’s longest bridge. We make a quick stop for a photo opportunity in Shediac, the Lobster Capital of the World and then head to Hopewell Rocks.

At Hopewell Rocks, you can witness the extremely high tidal range in the Bay of Fundy. The Bay of Fundy has the highest tidal range in the world. During low tide, you can walk on the ocean floor and explore coves filled with these flowerpot-shaped rocks, which were sculpted by the highest tides on the planet. At high tide, these unusually shaped rocks become small islands surrounded by water.

Please note that it’s only possible to walk on the ocean floor during low tide.

We continue to Saint John, a seaport city, for a two-night stay.

DAY 10 – SAINT JOHN – ST. ANDREWS – SAINT JOHN

A morning walking tour of Saint John includes various famous Loyalist sites, and the beautiful architecture of Saint John.

We spend the afternoon in the captivating seaside resort town of St. Andrews where you are free to have lunch, shop and explore this charming and historic town.

 

Your evening is at leisure in Saint John.

DAY 11 – SAINT JOHN – HALIFAX, NOVA SCOTIA

We leave Saint John this morning and cross the Bay of Fundy on a ferry. Breathe in the fresh salt air and keep a watch for marine life. 

We travel along the scenic Evangeline Trail through the Annapolis Valley where we will stop for lunch and wine tasting. After, we visit Grand-Pre National Historic Site, once the epicentre of Acadian culture. 

We continue on to Halifax to enjoy some free time to explore the city before a farewell dinner, celebrating your Maritimes tour with your fellow travellers.

DAY 12 – HALIFAX – TOUR ENDS

Your tour ends after breakfast today. Your beautiful memories of the Canadian Maritimes will be yours to treasure for years to come.
