DAY 4 - TOUR BELL ISLAND MINE

Take a day trip to Bell Island and experience the #2 Mine Tour and Museum, offering a powerful glimpse into the lives of the miners who worked there for over 70 years. Explore the vast underground caverns, nearly 5 kilometers beneath the sea, where men toiled for 10 hours a day, 6 days a week — with sons collecting iron slag and families waiting anxiously above. The tour brings history to life with stories of early mining conditions, horse-drawn ore carts, and the dangerous work illuminated only by the faint glow of candles fixed to miners' hats. Artifacts, historical photographs, and accounts of wartime challenges paint a vivid picture of this tough yet resilient community.

DAY 5 - ENJOY AN AUTHENTIC  NEWFOUNDLAND EXPERIENCE AT WOODY ISLAND

Travel to Garden Cove and take a ferry to Woody Island for a unique overnight escape to a resettled Newfoundland island. The 40-minute cruise offers stunning views of Placentia Bay, with the Burin Peninsula's hills on one side and Sound Island on the other. Once at Woody Island Resort, the island becomes yours to explore — from walking along the beach and chatting with local fishermen to hiking, rowing a boat, or playing games like horseshoes and cards.

Enjoy traditional Newfoundland home-cooked meals, like pea soup with fresh bread, pan-fried cod, and toutons with molasses. Visit the Store Loft Museum to learn about local history, or simply relax by the sea. In the evening, the resort comes alive with a classic Newfoundland kitchen party — complete with live music, singing, dancing, and the "Virginia Reel." Guests are encouraged to bring their own instruments and join the fun. It’s an authentic experience blending history, hospitality, and the charm of island life.

DAY 6 - MORE AMAZING NEWFOUNDLAND EXPERIENCES

Start your day with a hearty breakfast of bacon, eggs, juice, and homemade bread before setting off to explore resettled communities along Placentia Bay. As you cruise past Merasheen, Brule, Spencer's Cove, Tacks Beach, and Isle Valen — most now without permanent residents — keep watch for whales, dolphins, bald eagles, and other wildlife.

The journey takes you to Muddy Hole (also known as Bollard's Town) on Sound Island, resettled in the 1940s. While the staff prepare a traditional beach boil-up — featuring homemade beef soup, sandwiches on fresh bread, and sweet treats — you can hike around the harbour or relax by the fire, enjoying music and the peaceful surroundings.

After the picnic, return to Garden Cove by ferry, wrapping up the day with an overnight stay in Clarenville.
